For this Dartmouth based scheme the planners had asked for a landmark 21st Century Building to be added to this beautiful site. Consisting of a set of waterfront apartments containing one, two, and three bedroom residences, the design though large open balcony’s and glazed openings provides its occupants with fantastic views over the Dart Estuary and beyond. Influenced by local artist Caroline Bailey, the design concept incorporates abstract forms that have been designed to reflect the great tradition of sailing in the area, and to create a dynamic relationship between the building and its setting.
The low level plinth accentuates a sail-like aesthetic, allowing the building to float gracefully above the ground. The long, northern façade has been scaled to match the size and visual rhythm of the street and local vernacular. This elevation continues the roof line of the Ship Inn opposite and the established and gradual stepped building form along College Way towards the river.
