Paragraph 55 House

Proposal for a new contemporary dwelling in the countryside near Milton Keynes under the paragraph 55 planning clause. A collaborative design between AR Design Studio and Landscape Architects Ibbotson Studios transforms an overgrown paddock into a striking contemporary home for a couple with a passion for motor cars. Suspended above a pond, the home sits within a beautifully enhanced private garden incorporating meadows, a reed bed and orchards which are all informed by the local history.

The simple linear form inspired by a local agricultural vernacular, accommodates striking open plan living space which cantilevers 5.5m above the water and gardens below. The innovative column-less cantilever structure has been designed in conjunction with Structural Engineers Eckersley O’Callaghan.
